Veronica was contemplating confessing to her four daughters what she suspected was responsible for their predicament.

Veronica remembered the story her husband told her before he died and disclosed everything to her children. They listened attentively as if they would write an exam on that.

“Your father told me a story of how he broke a young girl’s heart so mercilessly that she wept in the rain and cursed him. It happened when he was in class three in secondary school, so many years ago. His mother had a house which she let out to tenants.

The poor girl was taken to her mother in their village but before the 16-year-old left, she tearfully cursed your father. She stepped out in the rai in the night not caring that neighbours were watching.
