The accident involved a truck with registration number, Lagos KRD 457 XJ, which was loaded with food and household items.

It was learnt that the vehicle was heading to Ilorin from Kabba in Kogi State when the accident happened.

An eyewitness disclosed that the driver of the truck suddenly lost control and rammed into an electric pole before spilling its content in the bush. One of the passengers who sustained a minor injury, Malam Garuba Dodo, said he noticed that the driver had been showing signs of exhaustion and was advised to take a rest.

The driver, however, decided to proceed on the journey. “We just noticed that he was already showing signs of tiredness before he suddenly lost control of the vehicle,” Dodo said.

The remains of the deceased were deposited at the mortuary while those injured were taken to Ajisafe Hospital in Omu-Aran.

Driver of the truck, who also sustained a minor injury, was arrested by the police from Omu-Aran. Mr. Abdulkareem Akeem, the Head of Operations, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Omu-Aran unit, confirmed the accident, saying the command was still investigating its cause.

Akeem, however, advised motorists to always exercise caution and remain in the right frame of mind before embarking on any long journey.

He said the command had set up a Help Area on the outskirts of Omu-Aran to assist motorists on the highway.

Akeem said the Help Area is equipped with first aid treatment facilities, adding that this was part of the command’s ember months initiative to enhance rescue operations.
